There comes a point when scars no longer hurt, but instead, they serve.
Scars serve as visual reminders of the time it takes to heal,
but they prove that healing does come . . .
and that God is far more patient and gentle with us in the process
than we are with others and ourselves.
Scars serve to show us there was a before and after –
a time when we were naive to the enemy’s devices
and a time now when we are confident in the Lord’s faithfulness & deliverance.
Scars serve to show us that life is full of seasons –
seasons to store up God’s promises deep in our hearts
and seasons to watch Him prove His promises true in every layer of our lives.
Scars serve to help us recall the lessons we have learned
and of the ways God has abundantly provided for us in our pain.
Scars serve to remind us that the comfort and refuge of His wings
will overshadow and outweigh the sting of opposition and rejection.
Scars serve to teach us to embrace humility
and to keep our knees bent on the level ground at the foot of His merciful cross.
Scars serve to remind us there is a wise and purposeful Author of the story
and that the story isn’t over.
Scars serve to remind us of Jesus’ words that “in this world we will have trouble;
but be of good cheer! He has overcome the world!” (John 16:33)
Scars serve as springboards for longing for Christ’s return,
for the time when we will finally behold the face of our Beloved Redeemer!
Scars serve to help us further identify with our Savior,
for it is only by His scars that we are ever truly, fully healed (Isaiah 53:5).
“Now unto Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21, KJV)
